The HistorySean HeustonOne of the train stations in Dublin is named after this young Commandant who was given the task of taking the Mendicity Institution, a poorhouse on the Liffey quays. With a handful of Fianna Éireann scouts between the ages of twelve and sixteen, he was instructed to hold his position for two hours only to engage the British for almost three days.For this command the nineteen year old Heuston was executed in Kilmainham Gaol on the 8th of May 1916. |
